RE: Weekend Warrior Warranty is Gone

My understanding is that they are closed until labor day and then HOPE to reopen. Problem is, what dealer will want to sell them when there is no warranty offered? I would suggest that if you want one or a Rage'n, now may be a great time to get a great deal if you are willing to assume the risk of no warranty.

RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's

I have a question, how is setting up a LEGAL LLC in Montana, then having the LLC buy the motorhome and then license the motorhome to the LLC tax evasion? Freight company's (ie: UPS and others) purchase trucks and license them out of state all the time. Would that not be tax evasion as well? I realize the reason to set up the LLC is to avoid paying sales tax, but if the LLC is LEGAL, and they are, then the only thing I am aware of that other states could say is that if you keep it in that state more than so many days, you have to license it in that state.

RE: dealership question

The reason dealers don't want your warranty work is that it does not pay well and can be a pain in the neck to collect from the manufacturer
My understanding is that rv dealers are totally independent and not bound by any agreement to do other warranty work. Forest River posts this on their website when you go to dealer locator

RE: Rage'n Inc. is no longer

Ragen has been a division of WW for several years. WW is consolidating all of their business as sales of toy haulers have slowed. Should not be a problem with warranty and they are still building Ragen product.

RE: I Recomend a Yahama 2400 gen

The Yamaha is very quiet. I will say this, the 2400 does not usually run a 15k btu ac unit, so if this is your purpose, try it on your RV prior to purchasing one

RE: "Dangerous" Yellowstone Roads

I have driven that road with a 28' 5th wheel and while it is slow, its ok. Just don't be in a hurry and as others have mentioned, tow as little as possible in the park.

RE: Walmart

I agree that some folks take advantage and setting up for a week is doing just that. The way I look at is this- If Walmart doesn't care, why should I? They own the pavement.

RE: yellowstone NP to glacier NP..in a day?

It can be done in a day, but why not slow down and enjoy everything in between! Montana is a great state with lots to offer. If you can, at least make it 2 days.

RE: What Are Manufacturers Thinking?

You can only insulate a 2" wall so much. Insulation in many units has improved in the roof and belly of many RV's. Another area is windows and many more RV builders are offering thermal pane window options now, but they add weight and cost and are not near as efficient as in a home as they too can only be about 2" thick. As for fuel efficiency, many 5th wheels and travel trailers have changed designs to be more fuel efficient and you now have motorhomes being offered on the Dodge Sprinter chassis getting better mileage. It won't all happen overnight. It takes time to improve.

RE: Still pretty cheap to go camping!

Now why do you gotta go and rain on my parade? I didn't forget the price of the motorhome, I am simply saying that even with higher gas prices, camping is still pretty affordable. Many people are complaining about the gas prices. Before they went up, you still had to buy the RV so my point is simply that even with fuel prices where they are, it is still affordable.

RE: Backing in somebody else's rig

I think she sounds like a somewhat independent person just by the fact she went without her husband and maybe that same independence drove her to ask for help outside of the group. Just speculation. Either way, I don't see the big deal. I would have been happy to help and not thought anymore about it.

Still pretty cheap to go camping!

Went camping this weekend- Wife had to work, rain was forcast all weekend, but I took the kids and went anyway. Spent $5.00/night times 2 nights for a Forest Service CG. Spent $53.75 on fuel. Food was a wash as we had to eat either way. Road was muddy so I spent $6.00 at the truck was when we got back to town. $64.75 for a weekend in the mountains with the kids is pretty cheap to me. Heck, if we stayed in town and went to a movie for 2-3 hours it would have cost $40-$50! Hope you all had a great weekend too!

RE: Are RV prices going down because of hi fuel prices

Prices of new RV's are going UP, not down due to increased cost to produce from increased fuel costs. Many company's are going up around 2-4% for 2009 models. Yes, RV sales are down and some manufacturer's are out of business so you can get a buy on those products, and you need to since there is no warranty support on the coach, but for those in business, costs continue to increase due to transportation charges to get supplies to the factories and the price increase gets passed on.

RE: Disneyland

Stayed at Orangeland in 2004 and it was very nice. Felt safe and it was very clean. Huntington beach is a short drive (maybe 1/2 hour as I recall) from Disneyland and is a long beach, about 14 miles long if I remember right. Big pier in the middle with some shops. Would of course go to Disneyland and maybe CA Adventure. Had wanted to go to 6 Flags until I read this thread. Bummer.
Parking your RV at Huntington beach is no problem on any day I have been there, but I suppose could be on a hot summer day. There is an RV park so to speak at Huntington beach. It is nothing more than a parking lot with hookups, but it is right on the beach. Have a blast. We flew there last fall and my kids (9,6,3) loved Sea World as well.

RE: WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONLINE OUT Of STATE

tjholyoke- I agree with you. One of the benefits of the internet is folks in rural areas have more selection due to the net. If you can't find the make/model or floorplan you decide on locally, you have no other choice.
I just think if you are buying a make/model that is available local, you should try and buy there if you can.

RE: WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONLINE OUT Of STATE

It is ALWAYS best to buy local if you can strike a deal that is reasonable. Remember, even the "online" dealers are local to someone! Always give you local dealer the chance to match any other deal apples to apples. If they are the same or close, why would you not buy from them? The only reason would be if they had a bad reputation or are dishonest. When dealing with your local dealer, it is best to bring a written quote to your local dealer and ask if they can match it or what they can do.
Sure, you will travel with your RV and may be on the road if you need something done. But MANY, MANY RV'rs camp locally and when you have that list of little things it will be nice to have a relationship established with a dealer for service.
When it comes to warranty work, VERY FEW manufacturers have any kind of written agreement that can FORCE a dealer to do work on an RV they did not sell and since most manufacturers don't pay warranty well, most dealers don't want to do it. Simple as that.
Semper Fi says local dealers can NEVER match an online dealers price, but I have seen it done so it is worth a try.
